Ok, same thing here...I could really use some guidance on grasping this -
1. Who/What is/was Satan? 2. Is "Satan" in scripture always refering to a central figure/entity? 3. How are "evil" and "satan" similar/different?
I have more but this is a good place to start. Thanks!

I am currently reading "The Real Devil" by Duncan Heaster. It is available to read online here: www.realdevil.info/It is a real eye-opener. I am gleaning much more from it than I thought I would. To dive right into the meat of it, you can go directly to the following chapters: 2-3 Satan and The Devil - www.realdevil.info/2-3.htm2-4 The Jewish Satan - www.realdevil.info/2-4.htm3-1-1 "To be spiritually minded": The Essence Of Christianity - www.realdevil.info/ (This is the chapter I just finished reading this morning.)

I am more interested in how things that go bump in the night are to be explained, or apparitions, or voices - or you name it (signs and wonders). If there are no beings that might be called devils, then there are no beings that might be called angels either. And we might as well follow the Sadducees who say there is no resurrection, no angels, no spirit.
IMHO,

IMHO, Robin, I don't understand why you couple angels with devils, as though one can't exist without the other. Can you explain why you make that connection?

Hi Bev, Because I believe the bible makes that same connection. Not only that men could be possessed by devils but that they had power to do signs and wonders by them - Jannes & Jambres, eg. Neither Moses nor they had the power to turn rods into snakes, therefore an external power was being manifested. Until the lice showed up, then we see that the devil is unable to actually create life from dust, and so Moses was confirmed as representing the true God. It is also significant that the signs Moses performed were all against the idols of Egypt. Which idols the people had been exposed to for 400 years. These signs Moses did were more to convince them than they were to prove a thing to Pharoah.
