HE GREW THE TREEwritten by Dottie Rambo as sung by Barbra Mandrell 1. He molded and built a small lonely hill that He knew would be called Calvary. Then He made the seed that would grow to be thorns that would make His Son bleed. Then He made a green stem, gave it leaves and then gave it sunshine and sheltered it with moss. He grew the tree He knew would be used to make the old rugged cross. C. Nothing took His life, with love He gave it. He was crucified on a tree that He created. With great love for man, God stayed with His plan. He grew the tree so that we might go free. 2. With tears in His eyes, God looked down through time, saw Him spat upon, rejected and mocked. Still He grew the tree, that He knew would be, used to make the old rugged cross. C. Nothing took His life, with love He gave it. He was crucified on a tree that He created. With great love for man, God stayed with His plan. He grew the tree so that we might go free. He grew the tree, He knew would be, used to make the olde rugged cross. ----------------------------- Listen to the song here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1gfFO1-OOESomething to think about. This song always brings me to tears.

Thanks Morris, I was hoping to see some more responses. Perhaps a choral arrangement would be more to the liking of some. If so, the following link will take you to the same song by the Salvation Army Brampton Citadel Choir. www.youtube.com/watch?v=96NPYz0JQH4I want to share this with all my friends here because, as I said, this songs always makes me cry. Whenever I get to feeling full of myself, feeling like the whole world is against me, I listen to this song. It all get's knocked out of me, at least for a time. Well, I reached that point Sunday. I pulled that song out of my library, and I've been in tears for several hours. Then I got to thinking. How can I be so selfish to think that I'm being mistreated. But, when I think of the the whip used to tear the saviour's body apart, and the thorns that pierced the saviour's head, and the tree, that He created that was used to make the cross that was used to crucify the saviour. Thinking of all the Lord went through, nothing I ever went through in my life can even come close. How can I be so selfish? No amount of suffering we go through on this earth can ever compare with the what our saviour had to endure. On another site, some wrote that it reminds of a sign that said something like, "The greatest gift God gave man was hung on a tree, not put under one." No song has this kind of impact on me like this one. It is simply the most powerful song I've ever heard about the cross of Christ.
