Friends,
Our brother Twospirits has been misled by the commentators. Note what Revelation 11:8 in our translations says:
I want to make two points from the Greek.
1. The word 'orou' (where) means "alongside where."
Many commentators think they have an open and shut case because Jesus was not crucified in Jerusalem itself but outside the gate. It is true that Jesus was not crucified in Jerusalem itself. But they misunderstand the function of the the Greek word 'orou' (where). It means alongside where. Therefore, the argument that Jesus was not crucified in Jerusalem itself is invalid. The text says that the spiritual Sodom and Egypt is alongside where where our Lord was crucified.
2. The oldest and more reliable manuscripts say, "Where their Lord was crucified." The third person 'their' totally rules out Rome which is the common understanding. Jesus was not Rome's own Lord. The third person 'their' indicates that Jesus was the Lord of the spiritual Sodom and Egypt.
The spiritual Sodom and Egypt is to be identified as Jerusalem which is alongside where their Lord was crucified.

Now I stated in post #825: “Jerusalem” is never called “Egypt” in scripture. Nor is “Jerusalem” ever called “Babylon” in scripture. Therefore these scripture “witnesses” are testifying that the “great city” described here is NOT Jerusalem.” (besides much other evidence given). These scripture witnesses confirm my position. Where are yours?

8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
