(Luke 2:14 NASB) "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
(Luke 12:51 NASB) "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;
How do we reconcile these two verses?
My thinking is that "with whom He is pleased" is the key.

I can't say I really agree with the translation of Luke 2:14 though. Here is the transliteration;
"Glory in highest to-God and on earth peace in humans delight"
I'm no Greek linguist, but based on what I research I am leaning to this saying;
'Glory unto God in the heavens, and on earth peace, unto men satisfaction'
Now, that isn't the best wording on my part so let me explain what I believe is being said here. The context is the Saviour (verse 11). Praise goes to God because of this Saviour from Him (verse 13).
Thus, we have a contrast between the heavens and earth, with glory going 'up' and 'satisfaction' coming down. That "satisfaction", seeing the context of Saviour, is about 'reparation or compensation' in the relation between God in heaven and man on earth.
God, through sending His Christ, our Saviour, was preparing to repair the lost relationship between us and Him that sin brought. That is why our Saviour was called Immanuel "God with us" (Isaiah 7:14) and "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).
Through Jesus, God made possible peace between man and Himself, by removing the sin that separated us. It could be said "unto men, 'the opportunity to redress or right a wrong' ".

Perhaps tomorrow I can find the verse I'm thinking of, but I don't see a problem with God establishing His peace with man while breaking up the brotherhood that men form with one another which opposes God. You pretty much would have to do the latter before you could do the former!
The Tower of Babel comes to mind...our unity in fellowship with one another must begin with our obedience to God. And sometimes dividing us up keeps us from going the way of total rebellion. Which explains the presence of denominations/ sects in this new age!
Find a one world church and you will find gross idolatry in it. Which is exactly the direction Catholicism took.
