Yep, it's election time. And what are we going to decide? Just who do we want to mess up the economy? The Republicans will do with tax cuts, if Obama will sign them into law. Or the Democrats will do it with tax hikes, and we know Obama will sign them into law. As I see it, that's the only difference.
Neither party has a stellar record when it comes to handling the economy. The last time the Republicans were in office, they out-spent any Congress before it. While they are all talking about taxes, spending is still way out of control. Neither party seems to have a definitive plan to cut spending.
John Boehner, minority leader in the House, said he would like for spending to go back to 2008 levels. That is a joke. Keep in mind, when Bush took office in 2001, the national debt was 3 trillion dollars. When he left office the national debt was 11 trillion dollars. After two years of Obama and the Democrats, the national debt is 14 trillion dollars. At the current rate of spending, by 2016 the debt will be 26 trillion dollars, if we don't have a crash first. The difference in the debt, if you go back to 2008 levels of spending, will be minimal. The National debt might only be 24 trillion. Eventhough I think John Boehner is a clown, at least he suggested a step in the right direction, albeit, a baby step.
This country will have to do something drastic to handle the debt. And that something is to get back to Constitutional levels of spending. Neither party is suggesting that. But that is what we need.
Another thing I suggest is that Congress, and White House cut their salaries to about 1,000 dollars per month plus expenses, with no COLA. They are the people that got us in this mess, and they should reap the same benefits, just as they are forcing people on Social Security to do. The bills are going up, and Social Security technically goes down, as Medicare premiums go up. And we have Mr. Obama to thank for that.
There I go rambling again. I'll stop and let you have your say, that's if you want your say. This is becoming a ghost town. I think I just saw a tumbleweed smiley. It just collided with the birthday cake, and went up in flames.
I still have my sense of humor.
