I introduced this topic at CARM today and I am glad that so far no one there as responded to it because I would rather have comments from you nice people here.
I have not given this alot of thought and it may sound screwy on the surface but is it possible that the prince of the people to come is actually no different then the prince of Persia or the prince of Israel - in that the prince is some sort of angelic entity?
Daniel 9:26 “ And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me,
Daniel 10:20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia;
Daniel 10:21 But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.

I've actually had a few very lengthy discussions on CARM regarding Daniel 9. For me, and hopefully by now people notice how I believe scripture is far simpler than we make it to be, and how I believe it interprets itself, the prince is identified in the preceding verse, "Messiah the Prince".
In my opinion, anything else is of even greater speculation.
