Psa 9:14 - That I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.
Psa 9:15 - The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
Psa 9:16 - The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
Psa 96:10 - Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
1 Cor 6:1 - Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
1 Cor 6:2 - Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1 Cor 6:3 - Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
1 Cor 6:4 - If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
1 Cor 6:5 - I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
1 Cor 6:6 - But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
My intent here is to show that amongst the heathen we are to declare the glory of God; while amongst the brethren we are to judge according to that glory we know according to His righteousness. So how does this apply when we find ourselves judging heathens amongst the heathen according to their civil laws?
Do we go only by the letter of their law which may not be according to the righteousness of the Lord at all? For instance, there is no requirement of 2 or more witnesses to establish a fact, one is sufficient. Which leaves the jury with the task of trying to determine whether we think that one witness is telling the truth or not! How can that be determined if another does not come along to present his testimony? I don't see how it can.
We have no ability to judge the heart of a man - and when he lies it is because he has already justified himself and has thereby deceived himself. A man can appear quite convicted in what he believes is true even when he knows it is not. The 'best' liars I have encountered are always the ones who are 'self-believers'. And the only way I ever knew they were lying was because I did know the truth of the matter - or because I heard the other side and thus could at least weigh the first testimony against that.
We have the constitutional right when accused to remain silent and put the entire burden of proof upon the accuser to make his case. Thus the jury must determine if the prosecutor has in fact made his case beyond a reasonable doubt or not. And this can be from direct evidence or circumstantial.
I can't tell you about the case until it is over on Monday, but suffice it to say, I am having a dilemma about how to view my part in this. Which also just happens to be a matter I have more experience with than I wish I had - and am the only juror who does. And I tried to get excused from this trial for that reason - but it ends up being why they both picked me!
I know the Lord is teaching me something here - I just wish He would clue me in first!
Another thought about this is: if the leaders of the people do not do right, what hope is there for the rest of us!
