About one month ago I was asked to give my testimony at our church on Sunday morning. I said yes, but after thinking about it I thought it would be best to give it first to the one who asked me. While it took about a month for us to get together, on Memorial Day, at an outdoor dinner we finally talked. I thought it was important to let them know not only how it was that the Lord saved me, but also how my views on many things have changed since then. They were/are important to my testimony, and my growth as a believer which should be shared with anyone who would ask me.
You should have seen the eyes go wide when I got to the point in my testimony and said that Jesus came back already, the resurrection of the dead took place, Satan is no more, and we are living in the New Heavens and Earth. I tried to be very slow and concise in my answers to the many questions he had. (same questions I had concerning the fulfilled view) He was a young man, in his mid to late 20's, and did admit that with children he did not study his bible as much as he should. But until further notice he thought it was best if I didn't give my testimony. I knew that would happen so I wasn't surprised. I think it was the first time he heard this viewpoint. I didn't see rejection of preterism from him, but more his mind and thoughts trying to understand the concept of all these things being a spiritual fulfillment. I also did not sense anger or disappointment from him. He told me he grew up in what he would call a "sect", which looked upon anyone who didn't do it their way was lost. This Sunday I have a few pages for him to read which help explain preterism better than I can.

Hi Brother, You did what I had to do a few months ago and even though the initial response towards me was simply bewilderment, the next response was disdain for my view and refusal for the person to look for himself. In fact, what surprised me more was that this person admitted he was not very knowledgeable in Scripture so he was not willing to listen to a view different from the one he owned which he also had not studied for. Why do people so want to hang on to what they don't understand instead of learning whether or not what they believe is true?

My personal experience has been that the individuals who hear about the "new" view for the first time end up going to others more versed than themselves. Unfortunately, it is to those other individuals who are grounded in futurism that he will go...I would be very interested in how all this progresses. You are in my prayers.
