Old & New Covenant Contrasts
In the following list, the notation O.C. refers to Old Covenant and N.C. refers to New Covenant. Only a few scripture references have been noted for brevity sake.
A. “This age” (Ephesians 1: 21) of the O.C. is contrasted with “the age to come” (Hebrews 2:5) of the N.C.
B. Law in the O.C. (Exodus 24: 12) is contrasted with grace (Ephesians 2:8) in the N.C.
C. Moses in the O.C. is contrasted with Christ (John 1: 17) in the N.C.
D. The O.C. is a narrow and exclusive system (1 Kings 8: 66) embracing a single people, Israel (Gentiles could only partake by proselytism) while the N.C. embraces the entire family of mankind with no distinguishment as to Jew nor Gentile, male nor female (Galatians 3:28).
E. God dwelled in physical temples made with hands in the O.C. (Exodus 40:34) while in the N.C. He dwells in temples of flesh, the body of Christ, His church (1 Corinthians 3:16).
F. The old heaven and earth of the O.C. is contrasted with the new heaven and earth (2 Peter 3:10, 13) of the N.C.
G. The O.C. was temporary while the N.C. is permanent (2 Corinthians 4:18).
H. The O.C. emphasizes the outward, physical, visible through symbols and ceremonies while the N.C. focuses upon the inner, spiritual, invisible substance of what the O.C. had foreshadowed.
I. In the O.C. God’s people were historical and seen with the natural eye while in the N.C. God’s people are in the mystical, unseen to the natural eye, body of Christ.
J. The people of the O.C. died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off (Hebrews 11:13), while in the N.C. God had prepared for them of faith in the O.C. the better country they had desired, that is, a heavenly city (Hebrews 11:16).
K. The O.C. consisted of fleshly Israel (Exodus 24:10) while the N.C. consists of spiritual Israel consisting of all who have died in faith (Romans 9:6).

M. The O.C. is characterized by the world below while the N.C. is characterized by the world above (Colossians 3:1, 2; John 8:23).

P. The O.C. is a pattern of things in the heavens (Hebrews 9:23) while the N.C.
is the real substance of things.
Q. The O.C. consists of things that can be shaken while the N.C. consists of things that cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12:27).
R. The O.C. was death written on stones while the N.C. is life and righteousness written on man’s heart (2 Corinthians 3:3, 7).
