Hi guys, Just wanted to let you all know that I started a blog recently. Mainly to tell friends and family where I came from...How I got here and where I see myself going regarding ministry. And I thought you guys might like to follow the story too. I'll be doing my best to tell the story on a day by day basis. Once the story is done I then am hoping to turn it into a teaching tool. It's located at www.70ad.org. I've also made a blog that is linked to this page that is a preterist resources page that I will continue to update as new resources become available. And if anyone here knows of any good pret resources feel free to let me know so I can add them too. It's located at www.70ad.info. This is also why I haven't been spending much time over at CARM. Be blessed yalllll

Great reading, Brother. Just wondering when you had time to sleep while in school. I think you have a gift of expression.

Great reading, Brother. Just wondering when you had time to sleep while in school. I think you have a gift of expression. Expression huh? Thanks. Depending on how well this storytelling thing goes, I'm actually thinking about writing a book. I'm thinking some kind of Biblical science fiction. As far as sleep. Well...I learned very quickly just how important a dark room was. And also just how difficult it was to get a room completely devoid of light in the middle of the day. That and earplugs. Even though I eventually got used to it there is nothing that can replace nighttime sleep.

Well for me you are writing too slow! I want to hear what happened that caused the rift at Calvary, but I will try and be patient while you lead us there.
Good story telling for sure.

Hey Mike, question for you about CC ministry training. Did it seem like there was an unusual emphasis on Chuck Smith's teachings? Almost to the point of being a little cultish? I'm just reflecting mumblings I've heard over time. And I've noticed myself, listening to a variety of Calvary Chapel teachers (on radio, TV, and in person locally) that more times than not, they will reference Chuck Smith one way or another in their sermon/teaching/lesson (whatever they call it). And another odd thing I've noticed about CC teachers is that many of them "sound" alike, teaching with similar voice inflections. I'm thinking it is a conscious or unconscious imitation of Chuck Smith. Or, I may just have a wild imagination. Bev

Hey Allyn...I want to know what happened with you and the prophets. Basically it was a sensational realization that the NT gave us all the answers to what the prophets seemed to be saying concerning national Israel. The mystery that they did not have revealed to them was ripe for the picking for a follower of Christ.

You've pretty much nailed it on the head. As I look back it was pretty common to hear from other CC pastors that the way they prepared for their teachings was to listen to Chuck's tapes over and over and then teach the same thing. I believe Greg Laurie even wrote about doing that in one of his books. Heck even I'm guilty of having done that once before I taught a study on Jonah. Even though they make the claim of not being a denomination they have a watchdog group called Calvary Chapel Outreach Fellowship that is in place to make sure that if someone incoming CC pastors fall under the Calvary Chapel Distinctives. And that once in they stay that way. If their views change over time in disagreement with those distinctives they then are asked to stop calling themselves a CC and they will be removed from the approved list of CC's on Calvary Chapels list of churches. I could go on but I'm sure it will all be in the story. Mike Hey Mike, question for you about CC ministry training. Did it seem like there was an unusual emphasis on Chuck Smith's teachings? Thanks, Mike. Yeah, you mentioned Greg Laurie. He was one of them with whom I first noticed the voice/mannerism similarities. The local CC guy here is Pat Lazovich and the local radio station also broadcasts his teachings. That's where I first noted a similarity between his and Greg Laurie's sound or voice. Then later I heard Chuck Smith on the radio and it all clicked together. Pat Lazovich does a "Pottery Presentation" that's fairly well known among Calvary Chapels (that's my impression, anyway). It is now available as a video (7 parts) on YouTube. It's a pretty good presentation. Worth watching. www.youtube.com/user/calvarysvBev

I'm just happy that now I know I'm not the only one who sees it! P.S. for Mike.... I'm watching the video thru again right now and I'm on Part 3. Pat just said in the video that it was being filmed at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, so it should look familiar to you! He also talks about Chuck in this part of the video, how he listened to his teaching tapes through the whole Bible and wanted nothing more than to one day hear Chuck speak in person. And now here he was giving his pottery presentation at Chuck's church. Bev

You sure that wasn't Greg Laurie?? That is definitely freaky!! So, seriously, this is.... uncanny, unreal. Do these guys idolize Chuck Smith so much that they all try to imitate him, and thus all end up sounding like clones of one another? Hey.... I wonder how many we could find? We could write a book! Calvary Clones. Or at least we could put together snippets of their audio sermons and post it to YouTube (and call it Calvary Clones.... I kind of like that title). Bev

Mike, I just now logged in to see what my account says, and even though I have not been banned I have been given a 10 point infraction for this:
What a mess CARM is in, where they penalize the just and lift up the offender.
