Good morning,
Has anyone here noticed that the many hymns sung in church speak of a future return of Jesus? Yesterday during one song I again noticed, and stuttered. Since changing my futurist beliefs I find myself at odds with the words of many hymns I dearly love.
Since I believe that all was fulfilled, I find myself either humming or just listening. Anyone else here see this, and what do you do?
Thanks. Steve

Thanks. Steve I grew up with those songs so they still are dear to my heart. My church never sings them anymore because they have gone contemporary but when I vist another church and the old hymns are sung I simply smile to myself and rejoice in the new understanding I have. My daughter in-law made the remark the other day that she was so anxious for the physical return of Jesus. She is a new believer and so I am not about to preach to her these things that took me all my life to find out for myself. If the venue was different and the opportunity presented itself then I would tell her my views. I rely on the Spirit moving me to do so and I just didn't feel that moving in that paticular case.

That attitude will surely make hearing the old hymms about a future return, less uncomfortable. Blessings, Lady Sower~

I would think that since we all still expect Jesus to come for each one of us to take us home that we can rejoice in that understanding. I too have found myself hesitate over some of the songs sung today, but hearts can always rejoice in spirit and in truth, regardless of what the hymnist may have had in mind.

Allyn said, "I simply smile to myself and rejoice in the new understanding I have."I did that very thing yesterday. Thanks for the answers. Most of the songs in our church our contemporary too, but every now and then they put up a good oldie. There's something special about them. Steve

I applaud all of you who still can go to church and blend in and grin with the crowd yet you know the truth on end times..Since discovering the truth on eschatology I have found it difficult to attend what we call "church"Though I do not consider it to be a salvational issue it is still hard to look past the fact that they do not believe the Bible..lol..and besides there are some other issues I have found myself at disagreement with most churches since discovering eschatology

Ok..I give...what is C&MA? I'm guessing the Christian and Missionary Alliance church?? Thanks Paul. You're right. We have former missionaries from Peru for our pastor, and his wife. We love 'em. We've talked a bit about preterism and while he doesn't agree, it's not an issue for him to worry about it. Probably everyone at our church are dispy, but since my beliefs about that subject haven't come up, I don't make it a big deal. It's a small church from the monster one we used to attend.

Sower..hello Is the Church of God a form of Pentecostal? Yes, it is! Yes, I have! ;D Lady Sower~ Wow..good to hear!..to many "preterist" deny this scriptural experience..they want to say it is not for today or does it happen anymore but they are so wrong..it is real and genuine..and that is not a comment toward anyone here per say..just in general I have "heard" other preterist who claim otherwise. I have also experienced this powerful gift and I believe it is for everyone not just a select few.. John
